Pregnant breast cancer
Breast cancer is not common in pregnancy. It is estimated that about 500 future mothers get sick every year. Statistics show that the disease is diagnosed 7 months later than in non-pregnant women.
Unfortunately, most breast cancer in pregnancy is diagnosed at an advanced stage. First of all, because the changes on the skin of the breast and palpable ones are explained by the natural hormonal revolution during this period, thus calming the patient. Explaining that the problem will disappear after delivery or during breastfeeding. In addition, the disease is rarely painful, which further reduces the motivation of future mothers to act.
Contrary to what stereotypes say, breast cancer does not only affect older women. It often occurs in 20-30 year olds.
What to pay special attention to?
Neither pregnancy nor breastfeeding protect against cancer!
If you notice one or more of the following symptoms, don't let them be ignored. Demand a full diagnosis from your doctor. Waiting with action to solve is very risky in this case. Breast cancer metastasizes very quickly.
Disturbing symptoms include:
- change in the appearance of the skin of the breast,
- skin redness
- palpable nodules,
- change in the appearance of the nipple,
- enlarged inguinal lymph nodes
Make a breast ultrasound during pregnancy. New recommendations!
Every woman should perform systematic breast ultrasound. It is worth to arrange an examination before a planned pregnancy.
If you are 35 years old or older, you should have ultrasound of your breasts during pregnancy - in the first or second trimester. Breast ultrasound during pregnancy is not a threat to pregnancy.
If you are under 35 and you are genetically burdened with the disease, your doctor should seriously consider the need for an examination.
The test should be done, regardless of your age, if you notice something worrying about you.
