The Adult Club is an addressed initiative to adults and demanding customers, a brand aimed at development and inspiration. He reaches into the fields of culture, sport, parenting, and also touches on broadly understood lifestyle.

On February 9, 2014, the Club organized Workshops for Parents on the subject of "Educational Kinesiology". The workshops were conducted by Aldona Gontek - therapist, early school and pre-school education trainer, oligophrenopedagogue, kinesiologist, sensory integration therapist, 1st degree, specialist with 25 years of experience. What is educational kinesiology?

This method is commonly known as gymnastics of mind. Kinesiology is aimed at integration of body and mind work. A few simple exercises performed regularly may soon improve our concentration, reduce hyperactivity, improve body coordination and the ability to remember. This is the method used both in the therapy of children with disorders as well as for everyday "preventive" work with harmoniously developing children.

Movement is a source of health

If movement causes positive changes in the central nervous system, it occurs specific integration of the work of both hemispheres. As a consequence of the increased number of connections between the hemispheres the brain works more effectively, assimilates knowledge better, and has less difficulty controlling emotions. Hence the customary name "mind gymnastics".

If we work with the right part of our body, the impulse comes through the central center to the left hemisphere. By operating the left side, we activate the right hemisphere. Working simultaneously with both sides of the body, there is a dynamic formation of nerve connections, and existing ones are strengthened. As a result, the intuitive part of the brain begins to work better with the analytical part. In this way, learning for dyslexic or dysorthographic children ceases to be a cause of stress, it becomes easier.

Source of developmental problems

Some children are the main cause of too few nerve connections alternating movements unprocessed in childhood.

There is a greater risk of such ailments for children who were born as a result of Caesarean section, or for those who crawled slightly and / or were quickly transplanted into walkers.

The creator of the method Paul Dennison claims that the lack of harmonious cooperation between the hemispheres of the brain leads to blockages, and thus interferencewhich are the effect of problems in learning to write and read, trouble concentrating or expressing your own emotions.

Dennison claims that "blockades" can be removed just by moving. I propose a set of simple exercises that, carried out under the guidance of a therapist, but also with parents at home lead to visible changes in the child's functioning and his intellectual capabilities.

Of course, it's not that only babies born through cc or non-crawling are exposed. Today's times are far from those in which we grew up ourselves. I remember the hours spent on the beater, playing classes, a pebble, a dumpling, organizing character and task activities. We spent the whole day outside. Today, the children's world is filled with fairy tales, console games. Meanwhile, for the harmonious development of a child, it needs about 3 hours of active play a day!

After mastering the package of exercises that takes about a quarter of a day, you can individually, depending on the needs of the moment, duplicate specific exercises corresponding to specific skills desired at a given moment. This is not a substitute form for learning, but only helps in its easier acquisition.

The genesis of educational kinesiology

This method is over 30 years old, and its co-founder Paul Dennison received an honorary doctorate from the University of California for this method. Kinesiology has gained recognition in the US and in the world. Currently, it is present in 87 countries, also in highly developed countries. In Japan it was recognized as a miracle of science enabling supporting genius in extremely gifted children, not only as a therapeutic form for children with disorders.

Center of Psychological and Pedagogical Assistance of the Ministry of National Education has included educational kinesiology in psychology training programs, educators, teachers and parents in Poland. The list of institutions promoting the method of mind gymnastics is long and impressive. I will mention only a few of them: Mazowieckie Self-government Teacher Training Center, Association of Initial Education Teachers, countless public psychological and pedagogical counseling centers, Polish Dyslexia Association. The Association for Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder implemented programs based on kinesiology from the European Union (European Social Fund). Therapy and rehabilitation carried out by a team of kinesiologists from the International Institute of Neurokinesiology (currently the International Institute of Dr. Svetlana Masgutowa) are refunded by PFRON.

Kinesiology has also penetrated into Polish universities. She is taught psychology at several of the best state universities. These include the Jagiellonian University - Faculty of Management and Social Communication, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, University of Wrocław, Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, University of Silesia in Katowice, where even the Department of Kinesiology operated until 1993. In addition to psychology, the concept of educational kinesiology has found its permanent place in rehabilitation. She is taught at the Medical University of Wrocław, and is also supported by the Lower Silesian Medical Chamber.

Of course, like any method, kinesiology as well has its supporters and opponents. Opponents mention the lack of neuropsychological diagnosis and the lack of tools to measure progress.

First of all - observation

Mrs. Aldona Gontek, leading the Workshops, met with questions from the parents who came: "How do you know when is the right time to start exercising?", "When do you know that exercise is needed?", "How should I train with a child who was not crawling? ? ". The Trainer's answers were surprisingly banal - you can practice both with children developing harmoniously and with children with disorders. However, they should always be preceded by a meeting with a Therapist who will instruct how to do the exercises, in what order (it matters!) And how intensively.

The most important thing that Mrs. Aldona emphasized are two aspects - consistency (and therefore diligence) and observation of the child. Based on the child's drawings, writing or reading (in older children), you can catch the first signs of disorder (if any) and direct kinesiology towards eliminating the problem.

Symptoms of the first difficulties based on the child's drawing

Children who are awkward by hand or with coordination disorders: simplify drawn shapes, tend to put a lot of pressure on writing tools, and don't keep lines flowing. They often wear off and improve, the content of the drawing is poor, because they avoid drawing more difficult elements.

When disturbing perception and visual memory: drawing is poor (students only remember the outlines of objects and distort them), download drawing ideas from their colleagues, duplicate the same content with free drawing.
A small range of visual imagination causes: remembering few details, confusing when drawing directions: left-right, up-down, they map by changing the mutual position of objects.

Symptoms of first difficulties based on the child's letter

Children who are awkward manually: they write illegibly, the writing is ugly, they cannot regulate the pace of writing, the writing moves are abrupt, lacking fluidity, letters go out of line, they have difficulty in connecting letters, you can clearly see excessive pressure of the writing utensil, they are not able to rewrite from the board or at the time of dictation, the notebooks have snippets of unfinished sentences, incomplete sentences or fragments of text, the shape of letters varies, entire pages are written with a different handwriting, notebooks or books are dirty, have folded pages, etc.

Students with deficits in visual perception and visual memory: they make a lot of mistakes in writing - especially during classrooms, dictations, when self-control is weakened, when rewriting - lowering letters, confusing letters of similar shape, rearranging the order of letters, a poorly planned page in a notebook , no margin, children start the sentence from the center of the page, enter numbers at irregular intervals.

Disturbed lateralization: mirror writing, rearrangement of letters also changes the sense of the word, eg equation rearranging the order of words. Listening by hearing with impaired auditory perception: the child gives the impression that he does not understand what is required of him, does not follow the instructions, can not repeat the sounds of sounds in the correct order in the word, distinguishes the first sound, but has a problem in recognizing the last, confuses the sound of similar sound, leaves the end of words, makes mistakes when softening, leaves letters or whole syllables, has difficulties in analyzing and synthesizing words.

Symptoms of the first difficulties based on child reading

With impaired visual function: spelling and syllabication takes place, confusion of letters of similar shapes, lowering of letters.

Slow reading speed or acceleration with a lot of errors, rearranging the order of letters, inability to follow the text read by colleagues

With impaired auditory function: difficulties in merging a word, multiple spelling of one word, great tiredness when reading aloud, in a silent reading it understands the text better.

The pronunciation is indistinct, has difficulty memorizing the text, confuses humming, hissing and quiet sounds as well as voiced and voiceless, hardly differentiates softening, confuses the meaning of words with similar sound, reads non-rhythmically.

All the above-mentioned difficulties in learning a child disrupt his functioning in school, which is expressed by his increased excitability, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, concentration disorders, rash thinking, increased emotional reactions, and difficulties in social adaptation.

Cause of disorder in children

Research shows that every 5 child nowadays suffers from one of the varieties of dys ... (dyslexia, dysgraphy, dysortography or dyscalculia) and suffers from hearing impairment. On average, a child sleeps 2 hours shorter than his peers 15-20 years ago (and so do we). Additionally much more often and sooner falls into depressive states and depression.

What is the cause of these disorders? No movement! Strictly speaking there is no constant brain and vestibular stimulation. An average child needs 3 - 4 hours a day of free physical activity for harmonious development.

The brain has crossed patterns. The sensorimotor functions on the right side of the body are controlled by the left hemisphere and vice versa. The right growth of right hemisphere dendrites occurs between 4 and 7 years of age. The left hemisphere (logical) develops between 7 and 9 years of age. The specialization of both hemispheres occurs between 9 and 12 years of age. That is why during this period it is so important to stimulate the development of a child.

I have to admit that I was skeptical about the Workshop topic. Their course alone did not kidnap me. However, an individual conversation with Mrs. Aldona showed me how enormous she has a passion for working with children, what kindness she surrounds them and how sensitive he is. To be honest, I learned more from the individual conversation about the rightness of introducing the kinesiology method into my children's life than during the workshops. But this is because the basics with which Ms. Aldona introduced us during the Workshops were known to me, and what we talked about in two was a testimony to her many years of experience and conscious recommendation of the method to other parents.
